Therapies

THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE…

…Sessions are customized according to a client’s needs and may incorporate a variety of techniques used to address problem areas.

BIODYNAMIC CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY…

…is based on the osteopathic work of Dr. William Sutherland. It works with the inherent wisdom of the body and allows it to access a greater state of health.

The therapist utilizes gentle hand contacts to palpate the subtle motions in the body. When restrictions are sensed, the therapist assists the body in releasing those to help facilitate a greater state of wellness. During a session, deep relaxation can be achieved. Residual trauma can also be addressed in the body whether having origins emotionally, from falls, accidents or surgery.

BOWENWORK…

…originated in Australia and is named after its founder, Tom Bowen. It made its way to the U.S. in the late 1980’s.

Bowenwork is a soft tissue technique that involves gentle rolling motions being performed over specific muscles, tendons or other soft structures. The changes stimulate the body’s autonomic nervous system to rebalance. After a series of moves are made, the body is given a rest period so that the nervous stem can begin to integrate the signals it has just received. In this time of pause, the body initiates the process of self correction and healing.

During a session, one may experience sensations of warmth, pulses of fluid or energy moving through the body, and a feeling of deep relaxation. At the conclusion of a session, you will be helped to notice and integrate changes that are taking place, and given suggestions for the following week such as specific daily exercises.

Testimonials

Longevity

I have been a client of Advanced Health Concepts for over 20 years. Heather has helped me through many situations ranging from massage therapy to the pain and aftermath of surgery. She has adapted her methods to help me get through all of my body’s physical changes. Heather has also continued her education, bringing continued knowledge, and consequently, continued help in my well being. I would recommend Heather to everyone and I have because of her growth as a massage therapist and a caring person – qualities that are rare in this day and age.

Bowenwork & Headaches

I had been experiencing increasingly stronger headaches for about 6 months. They often lasted 48 hours or more and got to the point where I was having them 2 or 3 times a month.

They were really affecting my life and limiting my activities. I tried over-the-counter pain medications and they didn’t even take the edge off of these episodes. It was clear to me that I had 2 choices: go to my doctor for prescription painkillers and/or muscle relaxers, or try a holistic approach. After learning that Heather was education in Bowen Technique, I decided upon this approach.

In addition to treating me, Heather answered all of my questions and concerns, and described the work very clearly. I had 3 Bowen sessions over 2 months. It’s now been 7 months since my last session without a single headache.

Because of this great success, I have permanently added Bowen Therapy to my list of “Things I Will Do to Take Care of Myself”. What an easy and relaxing way to get ride of what was such a painful problem. I am so grateful to Heather for her skillful hand and intuitive intelligence.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many sessions are needed?

  • It greatly depends on the type of work we are doing. If we are doing Bowen, I recommend 3 sessions to start. The first helps balance the body and the second really sets the foundation. The third or subsequent session will help address specific areas that may not have been resolved from the balancing work.
  • If we are working with specific muscle therapy massage on a particular condition, I recommend a session once a week for 2-3 weeks. That way, we can address the area of complaint as well as areas of compensation, being able to address the multiple layers of muscle that may be contributing to the pattern.
  • For relaxation work, I usually recommend a maintenance program that can vary depending on the client’s needs and their stress levels.

Do I need to fill out paperwork for the first appointment? Should I get there early?

There will be some brief paperwork you will be asked to fill out before your first session. Then we will talk to share any areas of concern.

Do you take insurance?

I do not deal directly with insurance companies or Medicare. I will gladly provide you with a receipt that you can submit to your insurance company.

Do you take credit cards?

Yes. I accept Visa, MasterCard and Discover as well as cash and checks.

Do I need to wear anything special?

No, that is not necessary. The client will be covered. If you care to leave underwear on, that is fine, but there is nothing special that you need to bring. The only body part being exposed is the one being worked on at the time.
